New Transit Center Opens at CSU
On August 28, the Lory Student Center and Transfort held a grand opening celebration to announce the new Transit Center at Colorado State University.
U.S. Senator Wayne Allard, CSU President Larry Penley, Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson, Fort Collins City Manager Darin Atteberry, Federal Transit Administration Regional Administrator Lee Waddleton and Associated Students of CSU President Jason Green all spoke at the event and played a key role in making the day a success.
The construction project created a new entrance at the north end of the Lory Student Center, adding more than 14,000 square-feet and renovating more than 7,000 square-feet of existing space. The enhanced space includes a Transfort customer counter, flat screen monitors displaying departure times and news stories and an indoor passenger waiting area to make public transportation more comfortable and convenient for CSU students and visitors. The new and renovated spaces also feature a Campus Information desk, Cam's Lobby Shop and Bagel Place 2, Student Leadership and Civic Engagement offices and new meeting rooms.
This collaborative project was possible through the efforts of the City of Fort Collins, Federal Transit Administration and Colorado State University. The $8.24 million project was executed at no cost to CSU students or to Colorado State University. It was funded through the Federal Transit Administration. No student fees or University funds were used.
This project is the first building on campus to earn certification from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). By using "green" practices such as recycled building materials, natural light, reduced amounts of construction waste, etc. we were able to earn a Silver Level of Certification.
Self-guided tour brochures are available at the Transit Center Information Desk. Take a moment to explore the space and learn about special features such as the Bike-n-Ride Demonstration Area and the Art in Public Places creations.
