2008 Joan Gaynor Kuder Scholarship

The Joan Gaynor Kuder Scholarship was established in memory of Joan in 1989. The first scholarship was awarded in 1992. Joan served Colorado State in several capacities during her 17 years of association with the University. She believed strongly in and encouraged life-long learning, and the important role it plays in employees' job satisfaction. Her family and friends established this scholarship to continue Joan's work.

A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to two nine-month or twelve-month employees who have made sustained progress toward their degrees by registering for four to six credits per academic year (including the Colorado State study privilege) with the stated goal of attaining a degree from Colorado State University. Eligible employees include full-time (forty hours per week) state classified personnel, administrative-professional staff, and academic faculty.

Any full-time Colorado State University employee may apply.
Application forms are available by clicking the link above. Completed application materials should be sent to Jan Rastall, Off-Campus Student Services/Resources for Adult Learners, Lory Student Center, 8033 Campus Delivery.
All applications must:
- Include the Application Form.
- Be limited to the Application Form and up to THREE (3) additional DOUBLE-SPACED PAGES (with font size of no less than Times New Roman 12 point font), including answers to the five questions out-lined below; a maximum of two letters of support; one unofficial transcript, sorted by semester, of all course work completed at Colorado State and/or other colleges/universities within the last five years. Transcripts are not included in the three-page total.
Applications should include the following information:
- Name of applicant, department or unit, current position, and number of years of employment at Colorado State University.
- Answer the following questions on a separate sheet(s) of paper with your name and CSU ID number on top. NOTE: Responses should be typed and double spaced with Times New Roman 12 Point Font and should NOT exceed 3 pages.
  1. What are your educational goals (include any degree(s) already earned)?
  2. Have you attended any courses/workshops to improve professional and personal skills not listed on a transcript? If so, please provide the following information: name of course/workshop, date attended, summary of course/workshop, personal benefit of course/workshop, and financial obligation for course/workshop (i.e. self, department, etc).
  3. Why do you want to further your education?
  4. What type of additional services have you provided to Colorado State University, the community, and/or other organizations (include dates of service)?
  5. What are your individual responsibilities to Colorado State University?
Please submit ONE ORIGINAL and ONE COPY of the application packet (which is the Application Form; up to three additional pages including answers to the five questions; maximum of two letters of reference; and one unofficial transcript from each institution attended). Deadline for submitting the packet is March 10, 2008 at 5:00 pm. PLEASE NOTE: Applications will not be accepted via fax or e mail. Applications that do not include the information listed above will not receive scholarship consideration.

General Considerations for Selection

The Scholarship Committee seeks individuals who: have an active record of academic achievement and advancement; are working toward an identified educational goal; and have contributed to his/her particular unit and/or to the University community by serving in additional capacities. Employees do not have to be formally admitted to a degree program to be considered for this scholarship. Past recipients are not eligible for the scholarship.
